Season in Ministry is a 10-month residency program designed specifically for post-college graduates interested in vocational ministry. Doing a residency at a Mountain is a great opportunity to sharpen your ministry skills and gain further leadership experience while receiving coaching by a team that is good at what they do, loves what they do, and loves the people they do it with. Our residents are treated as fully functioning staff members, fully integrated into the life of the church, and leading in a variety of ways – from hosting weekend services to writing small group curriculum – our residents walk away from their experiences feeling confident and empowered to step into their God-given calling.

Residency FAQs

If you’re interested in vocational ministry, ready to be challenged and grow professionally and spiritually, and if you’ve completed college or feel God leading you to make a career shift, then Season in Ministry could be a possibility for you. We look for individuals who simply want to serve and follow Jesus’s calling in their life. Specific traits we look for in candidates include: coachability and teachability, a desire and high capacity to learn, humility, grit, and integrity.

The program runs for approximately 10-months from August through the end of May. Cohorts begin each fall, and applications are due the previous April.

We follow an apprenticeship model in our internship and residency programs. Every resident is paired with veteran staff members as their supervisor and mentor. A supervisor oversees the residents' ministry plan and the day to day projects and tasks they’ll be working on, while the mentor is there to check in on how the residents' soul is doing. Both of these relationships, along with the Equipping Pastor who serves as the director of SiM, ensure residents never feel like they are on their own. There is an appropriate balance of support while the residents also feel empowered and are expected to lead and take on new challenges.

Yes, it is! And our residents work approximately 30 hours a week.

The professional aspects of the residency are divided between supervised ministry experience and spiritual formation, working alongside a seasoned pastor on our team. Residents will be required to attend monthly All Staff meetings on Wednesday mornings, weekly and bi-weekly formation gatherings, and your assigned ministry team meetings, in addition to weekend service responsibilities. Residents will need to participate in the opening and closing retreats. Each resident is also encouraged to carve out time for reflection and personal interests. You will have ample time to explore the surrounding regions in the North East, build relationships with church staff, members and peers, and participate in community involvement and outreach.

We offer residencies in all ministry areas: Kids Ministry, Student Ministry, Discipleship & Groups, Pastoral Care & Counseling, Local & Global Impact, Worship & Production, Preaching & Teaching, Digital & Online Ministry, and Sports Ministry; as well as internships in Finance (non-profit accounting), Social Work with The EPICENTER Community Center, Communications & Graphic Design.

As far as campus placement, that is dependent on the makeup of the entire cohort, the residents interest and skill level, and availability of our staff structure.

Share with us your academic needs! Let’s work together to make sure it’s a best fit for you and that you’ll be able to fulfill any academic requirements needed. Most programs we’ve worked with have indeed been able to be fully integrated and credit requirements met through our program.

If coming from out of state, we do our best to help provide host homes for residents thanks to the generosity and hospitality of Mountain members. Each host home gives a resident a private bedroom and bathroom, access to laundry facilities, and has wifi. If there are special accommodations needed (i.e. single story home, allergies, etc.), we do our best to meet those needs for our residents. However, residents are welcome to look for their own housing in the Harford County community as well.

At Mountain, we believe who you are along the way is just as important (if not more so) than the work that you do. Your character will trump your skill set everytime. We are a team that does indeed work hard, but we want to rest well too – integrating soul care rhythms that lead to sustainability and longevity in ministry. We believe in digging our wells deep, staying connected to the source of life. We do ministry with Jesus. As a cohort, both interns and residents spend weekly formation classes reflecting on and discussing different ministerial formation topics such as developing a healthy self, engaging with Scripture, disciple-making essentials, living with integrity, and handling healthy conflict.
