Lectio Divina

What is God saying to you right now?

What is Lectio Divina?

Lectio Divina is an ancient form of prayer, where we use Bible reading to intentionally listen to God. Through reading a small portion of scripture several times and answering a different question each time, God can speak to us, guide us, reveal his will to us through His Word.

Let’s get practical!
Here is a guide to practicing the Lectio Divina.
To start, find a quiet place and have something to write with nearby. Choose a few verses of the Bible to read. It can be any portion but here are some good places to start:
  • Mark 4:35-41
  • John 5:1-9a
  • Psalm 23
  • Ezekiel 37:1-10
  • Luke 10:38-42
Once your passage is selected, read through three times. Each time, focus on these questions in order:
  1. NOTICE: What word or phrase stands out to you? Write it down.
  2. REFLECT: To what area or areas of your life might God connect that word or phrase? What additional thoughts come to mind as you continue to reflect on the meaning of what stood out to you?
  3. ASK: Is there an invitation to you from God? What are you hearing?
