Elder Affirmations - Mountain Christian Church

Elder Affirmations

Elders are overseers and shepherds of the flock. Elders, along with the pastoral staff, guide and lead the congregation. Their role is to clarify vision, set an example, give pastoral oversight, and work with staff and ministry teams to ensure the church is in good health and accomplishing its purpose.

Good leadership is crucial to the church. Mountain's nomination and selection process has produced the following individuals who are being presented to the congregation for a three-year term as Elder beginning September 2026. This process has been very thoughtfully and prayerfully carried out. We ask you to pray for Mountain Christian Church and all of those among us who serve as leaders.

This year, we are putting forward one new elder candidate (Steve Hayes) and one re-nomination candidate (Ron Fisher) who has finished his current 3-year term and has been nominated to complete an additional new 3-year term.

New Elder
Nomination:
Stephen Hayes

Stephen is the Vice President and part owner of Emergency Power Services, Inc., a White Marsh-based business specializing in mission-critical power systems. He has been with the company for over 30 years, where his wife, Christine, also serves as Finance Manager.

Stephen and Christine have been attending Mountain Christian Church since 1993 and have called Forest Hill home since 2005. They have been married since 1992 and have two children, Megan and Scott, who grew up with Mountain as their church home. They primarily attend the Mountain Road Campus and have also spent time at the Abingdon and Edgewood campuses.

Stephen and Christine are active Difference Makers at Mountain, serving as Campus Group leaders and Welcome Leaders, with Stephen also leading Team 1 Greeting as a Difference Maker Coach. They have served in a variety of ministries over the years and have completed Rooted, Leadership Development Group, Peer Coaching, and other leadership training through Mountain..

Stephen says he is humbled and honored to be nominated for Elder:

"Mountain’s mission of ‘Making More and Better Disciples’ inspires me to use the gifts God has given me to help continue the legacy of growth, outreach, and discipleship within a Jesus-shaped community. It is a privilege to serve and invest in what God is doing through Mountain.”

Current Elder
Re-Nomination:
Ron Fisher

Ron Fisher Headshot

Ron joined the team of Elders with Mountain Christian Church in September 2013. His journey at Mountain also includes service in various other roles over the years. These include: small group leader; benevolence committee member; guest information volunteer; and deacon. Ron’s participation in these roles was reinforced through the completion of Mountain’s Leadership Development Group in 2008.

Ron has a passion for reconciliation, inclusion, and cultural diversity within the body of Christ – portraying a credible witness of oneness and unity to a watching world that is skeptical of the relevance of the gospel message. To that end, he has been promoting multi-cultural group conversations amongst members of local homogeneous churches.

As a financial advisor for over 30 years, Ron gets to live out, vocationally, another of his passions – promoting purposeful financial stewardship. His wife Lisa D. is a mental health therapist, and they have been married for 26 years. Ron is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1987.
