A STUDY OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION

Class Instructor: Dr Buddy Coffey

Beasts and monsters. Brides and prostitutes. Seals, trumpets, and bowls. Thundering horsemen. A roaring Lion and a slain Lamb. The imagery of the book of Revelation is so vivid! And we can be so dazzled by its symbology as to be blinded to its deeper message.

We're not helped by how some have milked Revelation's content for all the sensationalism they can squeeze out, to the point of creating an "end-times-prophecy-industrial complex" that frankly treats the message of Revelation irresponsibly. Even secular media get into the game by headlining this or that group predicting "The End of the World" or how "The Rapture" is to happen on this or that date. In a way you can't blame them when you see how some self-proclaimed "prophecy experts" are throwing out rapture predictions like weather forecasts.

In this 19-week course, let's take a fresh approach and read Revelation responsibly, as one of our (optional) class texts has as its title. But what does a "responsible" reading of Revelation consist of? We'll go through the Biblical text with two major themes in mind:
  • How God cleanses His good creation from all that pollutes it
  • Following the Lamb into New Creation

Class Information
Each night of the study will have Bible readings, lecture, and group discussion time. The resources you will need are found online, and you will be able to read through each lesson in advance. Even though all the scripture we read will be displayed on screen, you may still want to bring your Bible with you. (Any translation will do; bring the one you use and love the most!)

Best of all, there is no charge for the class as all materials are available online.

Class syllabus, schedule, and topics covered can be found on the class web page
